Monthly Letter to Middle School Families - March 2010

If shoveling snow was an Olympic sport, Malvern’s maintenance staff would absolutely win the gold medal.  I am still recovering from shoveling my sidewalks and driveway; I can’t imagine shoveling the entire campus.  I am looking forward to longer days, birds chirping, and the leaves growing on the trees.  I am not looking forward to the end of the year however, because that would mean saying goodbye to another wonderful 8th Grade class.  Unfortunately, the end of the year is approaching at warp speed, so please help us to keep these guys focused and motivated to finish the year strong!

Please review the schedule for March that lists the weekly activities like Band practice (so the guys can remember to bring in their instruments), Chorus practice, activities, advisory, and “E” periods.  The dates and activities are subject to change; however we will do everything we can to keep changes to a minimum.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to check in.  The “Middle Years” newsletter is also posted on the Middle School Resources webpage and provides some helpful hints in dealing with young adolescents.  Do not hesitate to read it and discuss it with your sons.

Finally, I would like to share with you some upcoming dates and events.  March 5th is the day the entire Middle School goes across the street to the Malvern Retreat House for an all day retreat.  We are having our winter sports assembly during 1st period on March 9th in the Duffy Theatre.  Tuesday evening, March 16 is the Father/Son Banquet.  The 3rd Quarter ends on Friday, March 19.  You should expect to receive your son’s report card Monday, March 29 (he will receive it that morning in homeroom).  Our Middle School Honors Assembly will be Tuesday, March 30 from 8:25-9:10 am, and our Easter Break begins at the conclusion of the school day on Wednesday, March 31.

Think sunshine and warmer days!

In the Shadow of Augustine,

Ronald A. Algeo
Dean of the Middle School
